Anderson tests midget car ahead of 'the Night before the 500'

"Belardi Auto Racing driver Scott Anderson took to the track to begin oval testing for the next round of the USF2000 Series Presented by Mazda"
Fort Collins, Colorado - Scott Anderson, the 2011 Skip Barber National Champion and MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Scholarship recipient, jumped aboard a Davey Hamilton-prepared Ford Focus Midget car at Anderson Speedway, Indiana to help prepare him for the lone oval race on the 2012 Cooper Tires USF2000 presented by Mazda Series calendar. Anderson completed 50 incident free laps, getting up to speed quickly in the unique open wheel car and now looks forward to the May 26th event at Lucas Oil Raceway Park, part of the Indianapolis 500 festivities.
"It was a very new experience. I found adapting to the oval was much easier than adapting to the car. The seating position was completely unnatural to me, but I eventually got used to it", commented Anderson. "It was good to have my first oval experience be a positive one. I'm looking forward to racing at 'The Night Before the 500' this year and more oval races in the future."
"With no oval track knowledge and with so little testing, we felt it important to test with a proven oval track team," stated Scott's manager, Derek Daly. "These tracks are very specialized but he was up to speed very quickly".
The month of May begins with a very busy week for Anderson as he heads out with his Belardi Autosports team to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for two days of official USF2000 Series testing. The teams and drivers will then head to Indianapolis on Friday May 4th for a USF2000 Series sponsored Oval Clinic. That will be followed by the first official oval test at Lucas Oil Raceway Park taking place on Saturday May 5th.
"While I'm in Indianapolis this week I'm doing motorsports training at PitFit, continued Anderson. "I've only got one day out of the way, but so far I'm extremely impressed with the operation Jim Leo runs. He knows what is important for drivers, and has programs that seem to apply very well to what we go through in the car."
